Always celebrated on the first Monday in May, Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour and her carefully selected co-chairs (this year includes Lady Gaga and Serena Williams) decide who is popular, chic and daring enough to get an invitation.

The crowd could top 600 and has likely been talking about camp for quite some time as guests, Wintour's co-hosts and the evening's committee members worked to personalize their fashion spins on the theme. Fox News has reported that declining an invite to the Met Gala is extremely frowned upon, so not many refuse the invitation.

This year's event will again be hosted by fashion queen and Vogue's own Anna Wintour, with the 2019 theme being 'Camp: Notes on Fashion, ' a play on American writer Susan Sontag's 1964 essay 'Notes on Camp'.

Each year, New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute holds a noteworthy party celebrating the opening of the year's first fashion exhibit. She matched the accessory with a miniature black purse from Delvaux, and black stiletto boots.As for her lipstick, she wore a shade of nude peach, and she outlined her lids with blue shadow. But that wasn't her only look of the night.

The worlds of fashion, film, music and sports converge at the massive gala every year, a fundraiser for the museum's Costume Institute. The theme is the basis for the Costume Institute's spring exhibition.

This year's theme is "Camp: Notes on Fashion" which was inspired by Susan Sontag's 1964 essay "Notes on 'Camp" and really who knows what these awesome designers will come up with this year.
