The season finale of Game of Thrones airs Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on HBO. The ruthless and uncompromising survivalist died while embracing her brother and lover Jaime Lannister, crushed by the collapse of a building that was the symbol of her power.

Then, despite Tyrion's best efforts to convince her to chill, she officially declared it time to attack King's Landing regardless of the people inside and sent the Unsullied ahead, telling Grey Worm to wait for her outside and he'd know when it was time to strike.

So, it seems quite unlikely that she would suddenly switch gears and decide to pursue a quiet beachfront life with her beau, but it's not altogether impossible, especially with all the dizzying character changes of this season. It's disappointing that the writers would choose to use the friendship of these two women in such a way, as a vehicle for the show's female lead to be labeled as "weak", "emotional", and "crazy", but it's even more disturbing to see how they chose to end Missandei's story: by putting her back in chains, robbing her of any autonomy she had gained, and then killing her in such a public, tragic fashion. The actress didn't think it was in Cersei's character to give in so quickly.

In their final moments together, it's "maybe the first time that Cersei has been at peace", Headey noted. You could argue both queens were shown to be acting out of character.

"I think he knows that they belong together, they came into this world together, that they need to go out of this world together", Weiss surmised. But, with so many King's Landing players out for the count, Sansa and Bran are sure to make a reappearance. She's also someone who has had really close friendships and close advisors for her entire run of this show.

"She starts off in this final season trapped in a web of her own making, as is usual with Cersei", Headey says. "I don't wanna be king", he said. "I told Nikolaj, 'I've never seen you so sweet and sentimental.' And he's all, 'What's happening to me?' We kept cuddling going 'I love you.' It was weird".

Lena Headey previously told EW she didn't agree with the decision in the Season 8 premiere for Cersei to have sex with Euron.
