Press Association Sport has approached representatives of the Brazilian three-time World Cup victor for comment.

Mbappe and Pele had been scheduled to meet late a year ago but had to postpone, again because of Pele's health, French media said.

He was still in hospital on Wednesday evening, though in a possible sign he was making a recovery, he said on Twitter: "I met Kylian Mbappe and his parents last night in Paris at @Hublot event".

The Brazilian icon was taken to hospital shortly after attending a social function alongside French star Kylian Mbappe yesterday.

The three-time World Cup victor was a special guest on Tuesday at an event organised by a Swiss watchmaker in a Parisian hotel, where he met Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe. We talked goals, World Cups and watches.

Mbappe was one of the stars of Les Bleus' 2018 success in Russian Federation, and followed Pele in becoming the second teenager to score in a World Cup final as Croatia were beaten 4-2.

Pele scored twice in the 5-2 World Cup final win over Sweden in 1958, going on to win two further World Cups with Brazil in 1962 and 1970.

"If Kylian keeps equaling my records like this I may have to dust my boots off again", Pele tweeted at the time.

Mbappe responded to that saying: "The King will always remain King".

At the event, France World Cup-winner Mbappe said of matching Pele's three world titles: "But it would be unreal".

The declining health of the player known as "O Rei" has been a cause for concern in recent times, and the planned meeting with Mbappe had already been postponed last November.
