Facebook, Instagram down for hours; worst outage in history

On Facebook, it appears that access via their website (desktop and web) is down at the moment, however, it seems to be working fine if you're using their mobile app.

Even Facebook-owned Instagram and WhatsApp servers were down, as per social media.

A Facebook spokesman confirmed the partial outage, but did not provide an update.

DownDetector, a website where people can report outages of popular internet services, indicates there has been huge spikes in complaints about Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram over the last several hours. "We're working to resolve the issue as soon as possible", its official account wrote.

Downdetector.com, a site that monitors site outages, said the Facebook problem affected parts of the USA, including the East and West Coast; parts of Europe and elsewhere. "Facebook Workplace is our only channel for [communication] with the exception of email".

"Ya'll, I haven't gotten my daily dosage of dank memes and I think that's why I'm cranky".

The outage is occurring against a political backdrop of legislators in the United States and beyond considering whether large technology firms - not just Facebook - should be broken up.

It later added: "We're focused on working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, but can confirm that the issue is not related to a DDoS attack".

After users reported about the inconvenience faced by them on the websites and mobile apps, Facebook took to Twitter to respond, "We're aware that some people are now having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps".

Some Twitter users who work in "Facebook-centric" jobs, expressed their panic and distress at being unable to use the platform. The three popular social media platforms are now experiencing outages at the moment making it hard to view your latest feed and posting new updates.
