Texas police capture MMA fighter after he escaped custody
Authorities captured Cedric Joseph Marks following a nine-hour manhunt that stretched through the afternoon.
Cedric Marks, a veteran of almost 60 MMA fights, is on the run with a manhunt underway for him in Texas.
Marks (left) is seen being escorted by plain-clothed deputies.
The prisoner, identified as Cedric Joseph Marks, was last seen in the area of the 800 block of North Loop 336 West, authorities said. The shirt was found by law enforcement after he fled.
Cedric Marks was taken into custody after a nine-hour manhunt involving multiple law enforcement agencies, Montgomery County sheriff's Lt. Scott Spencer said in a tweet Sunday evening.
Authorities have been interested in Marks after his ex-girlfriend Jenna Scott and her friend Michael Swearingin were reported missing last month, KHOU reported. Officials warned the escaped prisoner was "extremely unsafe".
Two murder warrants were issued for Marks. Bell County was notified of the escape at 8 a.m.
The Houston Chronicle reported one victim is Marks' former girlfriend, who met him on Tinder and had a restraining order against him.
"Each time he allowed me to regain consciousness and then he choked me out again", Scott said in an affidavit. Two members of his family were also listed on the protective order.
According to the report, Marks broke into Scott's home and threatened her in August.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and the Conroe Police Department are searching for an escaped prisoner considered extremely risky, who fled during a prisoner transport.
Police in Minnesota said Marks remained a person of interest in the 2009 disappearance of April Pease, who was the mother of another of his children. The two were involved in a fierce custody dispute in Washington state and Pease went to a protected location with their son because she said she was afraid of Marks.
Marks has not been named as a suspect in the disappearance of Scott and Swearingin.
Marks' wife, a 37 year old Muskegon woman, was charged with harboring him on January 16.
Maxwell had been in the Muskegon County Jail in MI since her January 11 arrest.
Maya Maxwell is charged with evidence tampering and is jailed in Bell County, Texas, on $150,000 bond.
