Le’Veon Bell will leave Steelers and become an unrestricted free agent

The Steelers placed their franchise tag on Bell for the second consecutive year last offseason after failing to agree on a long-term deal. While the emergence of James Conner in the Steelers' backfield last season made Bell somewhat expendable for the Steelers, he'll be arguably the biggest prize in a talent-rich free agency pool that could include DeMarcus Lawrence, Jadeveon Clowney and Nick Foles.

With the confirmation the Steelers are going to try to trade Antonio Brown, the team's need for a replacement is obvious. The seven-time Pro Bowler ran into issues with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger which eventually wound up with him being suspended for the team's final game of the regular season.

Bell is easily one of the most talented skill position players now available in a free agent class that is rather weak in that department. Some have speculated that the disgruntled receiver was intentionally causing a rift between himself and his current team to force a move by the Pittsburgh Steelers. "How things transpired, we're all disappointed", Colbert said of the situation with Brown.

"He's been there", Colbert said, via Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. "We can't afford to use any other type of tags".

The Pittsburgh Steelers have no interest in dragging out the drama with Le'Veon Bell any further. "Le'Veon will be an unrestricted free agent at the start of the new league year".

The prospect of another franchise tag still remained despite Bell's action, but that idea was put to rest Wednesday when it was revealed that the Steelers and star running back would be parting ways. Unless he lays off the Häagen-Dazs and gets back to football shape, we may not see that Bell for some time.
