Idrissa Gueye: Everton say midfielder will not join Paris St-Germain

PSG are reported to remain undeterred in their intention to sign Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye despite the Toffees rejecting their most recent bid, as they are expected to return with an improved offer before the window closes on Thursday.

"He had a minor problem with his groin", Silva said after Richarlison's early goal had lifted Everton up to eighth in the table.

Gueye has been a key player for Everton this season, making 20 appearances in the Premier League.

The midfielder was the subject of intense interest from Paris Saint-Germain throughout January.

'When one club like PSG comes for one player, normally he will start to think on his future also, but now he has stopped (thinking about that).

PSG have been seen as the front-runners to sign the midfielder, but Everton have been unwilling to sell.

The French giants have made several offers for Gueye this month, and have been rebuffed by Everton each time, but seeing Gueye missing from the Everton starting eleven set tongues wagging.

He said in his news conference, as quoted by The Evening Telegraph: "I know Idrissa very well, he is a good professional and a fantastic boy". They never told me to prepare to replace him.

Gueye left Aston Villa for Merseyside in 2016 following the Birmingham-based club's relegation to the Championship.

"He is a really important player for us". The January market is really tough, because the market is open when you're playing and training. "We have to be stronger as a team and stronger than them in all the moments of the match".
