Marcus Rashford could be considered the Premier League's best striker while Harry Kane is out injured, according to Manchester United's interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

"I thought there was a chance for us today, and if we started the game better, allowed ourselves not to be behind, particularly with the goals we had conceded, we could have got something".

"You can argue for many strikers but I'm glad he's in my team", Solskjaer said.

And he has since become the first Manchester United boss to win his first six league games in charge after Saturday's 2-1 victory over Brighton.

Lukaku's one and only start for Manchester United since Solskjaer's appointment came during a FA Cup match against Reading, but the 25-year-old has still scored three goals for the Red Devils during that time.

"No-one beats him on work-rate".

However, despite going 2-0 up before half-time, with Rashford's goal following a Paul Pogba penalty, United endured a nervous finish after Pascal Gross scored for Brighton with 19 minutes left. He's now calmed down in front of goal, he's very assured, he's practicing all the time - that's his technique but it's also a mindset.

The result provisionally lifted United one place up to fifth on 44 points from 23 games, three more than sixth-placed Arsenal who were playing fourth-placed Chelsea in the 1730 GMT fixture. "He had missed some chances and I said "no problem, you'll be alright, just settle down a little bit".

'The gaffer used to challenge us at times with: "Why can't you win 10 games on the bounce?"' said Solskjaer, who has been tapping into Ferguson's knowledge.

"At the moment I don't think we'll be bringing anybody in, you can never say no in case something happens between now and the window, but with regards to what I think we need at the moment, no I don't think that will be the case".

"There is loads more pressure at the bottom, where I was with Cardiff", he added. "The pressure is - for a club like this - we want to win every single game that we play".

Rashford has nine goals in 27 appearances for United in all competitions during the 2018-19 campaign.
