Maurizio Sarri warned his Chelsea stars to improve their mentality after Willian's sublime strike sealed a hard-fought 2-1 win over struggling Newcastle on Saturday.

Barcelona are reported to have offered Willian's unsettled compatriot Malcom plus cash to land the 29-year-old, but Chelsea remain determined to keep hold of the former Shakhtar Donetsk winger and the player maintains he his happy in west London.

Maurizio Sarri reiterated that Chelsea must find a replacement for Cesc Fabregas in the January transfer window after admitting that Jorginho was "in trouble" during Saturday's 2-1 win over Newcastle.

"Stop, stop, stop. I don't know anything about the Willian contract, but I don't know what to answer", Sarri said during his post-game news conference. "One of the reasons I think, in my opinion, is that Eden is playing in that position". It depends on the club decision.

"Today Jorginho was in trouble and on the bench there wasn't a player for that position", Sarri said.

It was just his fifth goal of the season and first in the league since October but Willian told BT Sport: "I think it's always hard in the Premier League".

"The most important thing is to take it game by game".

So while Sarri was expressing his regret at Fabregas's departure for Monaco, the decision to turn down Barcelona's offer for Willian brought instant gratification on Saturday, the wide man's brilliant victor maintaining their hold on a place in the Premier League's top four. "In this moment he is a fundamental player". With Eden [Hazard] as a striker, we need wingers.

"We need to try and try and try in training". We need [Hudson-Odoi]. We need Willian of course.

Mohamed Salah scored his 14th league goal of the season from the penalty spot after being fouled by Pascal Gross.

"I just think that when they went down, he spent £50-odd million to get them back up, of his own money".

"We scored and then controlled the last few minutes of the first half so it's a pity but a piece of quality made the difference".
