HBO drops first teaser of Season 8

The 39-second clip gives us a mere glimpse of what all we can expect from the final season of Game of Thrones.

The preview, which debuted at the São Paulo Expo offshoot of Comic Con in Brazil, begins with ice overtaking the land of Westros, before freezing a wolf representing House Stark solid.

As the teaser opens, we see a great wave of ice spreading across what looks like a stone table with the map of Westeros dotting it. HBO channel confirmed the news of the special episode but it won't air on the network - it will only be available as part of the complete series home video box set, which will package all eight seasons together, reported people.com. It implies that the series will end in a final battle between the Night King and Jon Snow-Daenerys Targaryen alliance on the other. Meeting in the middle on the board, ice and fire finally meet.

'In the third part of the last season, there is a battle that the creators intend to be the biggest in television history. But the story of Game of Thrones has always been about fire and ice, be it White Walkers and Targaryens, or aunts and nephews who may unite the kingdom by being in accidentally incestuous relationships.

Thrones' swan song will get underway in April 2019; HBO has not yet released an exact airdate or time for the premiere.

"Game of Thrones" returns to HBO in April.
