Oprah has made no mention of the death on her social media handles.

Winfrey previously released a statement about her mother on Twitter, along with a picture of the two.

Vernita Lee died on Thanksgiving Day at her home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at the age of 83, ET can confirm.

A Winfrey spokeswoman on Monday issued a statement saying Lee died at her Milwaukee home on November 22. The spokeswoman said private funeral services have already been held.

No other details were given. After Winfrey gave birth and her son died in infancy, "My father said to me, 'This is your second chance. It gives our family great comfort knowing she lived a good life and is now at Peace", the 64-year-old wrote.

Eventually, however, their relationship was mended in 1990 when Oprah welcomed Vernita onto her popular show for a personal style makeover.

Lee had two other children who both predeceased her. "I don't really even know my mother", Winfrey told Huffington Post in a 2015 interview.

Oprah was raised by her maternal grandmother until she was six years old, when she moved to Milwaukee to live with her mom.

'I suddenly land in a place that's completely foreign to me.

When asked the moment she felt the most pride for Winfrey's achievements, she cited the star's multi-Oscar nominated film The Colour Purple. I don't know anybody.

Oprah has not publicly commented on her mother's passing.

According to Daily Mail, Lee died last Thursday on the United States Thanksgiving Day.

"I was asking the question".
