This is when Google realized its mistake: it made white the default background color in its Material Design guidelines, which Google admits isnt using the phone to its best efficiency, not when Night Mode could potentially save a good deal of power. Indeed, Google's data showed that the phone used less than a fifth as much power when displaying black as opposed to white. More interesting was the fact that different colors cause different amounts of power usage, with white and then blue accounting for the biggest draw. A dark mode phone app is being tested, and so is one for the Google Feed.

At full brightness on a Pixel, YouTube in dark mode used 43 percent less power than normal.

With this realisation, Google will likely bring Dark Mode to Android apps in the future, SlashGear reported. Google has now confirmed that the Dark Mode also helps increase battery life on phones.

The tech giant showed an image of a YouTube video paused on a device running YouTube in its default view and juxtaposed it with the same scenario, but with Youtube running in dark mode. But battery life is never enough, especially as the battery degrades over time.

Do you prefer a light or a dark theme? Keep in mind that the original Pixel features an OLED display, while the iPhone 7 features an LCD panel. Google agrees, and it's designing more of its Android apps with a dark theme. In the Dark Mode, the battery consumption was reduced to 63 percent on the Pixel to 92mA. OLED displays don't shine their pixels when displaying the colour black. Unfortunately, it's led to an inconsistent experience on mobile devices.

Files Go has been rebranded Files by Google, and the updated version of the app is starting to roll out now.

Google's Android Dev Summit has been going on since Wednesday morning and was the site for Google's acknowledgement that foldable displays are coming and that Android will support them. Which is why having more ways to get users to update their apps is a good thing for developers.
