While the smartphone manufacturers are now getting rid of the Wear OS, the traditional watchmakers have started adopting Google's wearable OS.

Among the bevy of new technology features, the Fossil Sport is based on the recently launched Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform that uses what Qualcomm describes as an ultra-low power system architecture. We'll give hands-on impressions when we get one to wear. Fossil's own sub-brands are even guilty of this.

A few months ago, Qualcomm announced the new Snapdragon Wear 3100 SoC for the next-gen smartwatches, and it promised better battery life.

Fossil's latest features the usual mix of sensors including heart rate, NFC, accelerometer, gyroscope, altimeter and ambient light as well as a microphone, Bluetooth connectivity and wireless syncing + magnetic charging. Unlike the Android OS which is dominant in the mobile segment, the lack of in-house of collaboration between the hardware and software is affecting the Wear OS powered devices.

Finally, you'll be looking at a 1.2-inch AMOLED display with a 390 x 390 resolution.

The Fossil Sport is priced at $255 and comes in 41mm and 43mm sizes. Because of the new Wear OS platform, the Fossil Sport smartwatch also comes with Google Assistant for voice assistance as well.

The Fossil Watch becomes officially available on Fossils website starting today, November 8 and will b e available in select Fossil retail stores around the globe on November 12.
