Borderline, which bills itself as the "biggest dance floor in town", had been hosting an event called "College Country Night" when the shooting occurred. As per latest reports, authorities are saying that the gunman is dead after he injured at least 11 people.

There were reports of more gunfire as officers responded.

Witnesses said a man fired several shots from a handgun before tossing smoke bombs into the crowded bar.

Nick Steinwender, student body president at nearby California Lutheran University, rushed to the scene when he heard about a shooting at the bar where he knew friends and fellow students were inside.

Another witness said he was at the front door of the bar when the shooter began firing.

No other information was immediately available.

Multiple people were wounded after a gunman fired multiple shots in Thousand Oaks.

"He shot a lot, at least 30 times".

It was unclear how the injuries were sustained or the extent.

At 11:55pm, law enforcement reported that a California Highway Patrol officer had engaged a suspect and that a man matching the description was down with three gunshot wounds. The injured included a deputy, Kuredjian said.

A man who says he was in the bar told ABC news that he saw a man shoot into the crowd of customers - many of whom said to be students.

Thousand Oaks is located in Ventura County, which is just west of Los Angeles.
