The cameras have to go somewhere though, and this is where the slider comes into play. The chin is also smaller than the previous release, the Mi Mix 2S. Considered in context of the phone having a Sony IMX363 sensor, Xiaomi appears to have used some frame interpolation to reach that level of support.

There are two magnetic components underneath the display that brings forth slider mechanism on the Mi MIX 3. So, it is a similar placement like the upcoming Honor Magic 2. The company says the slider of the device has a life expectancy of 300,00 cycles.

You'll need to pay 3,999 yuan ($575) if you'd prefer 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The Mi MIX 3 is equipped with a 6.39-inch AMOLED display that supports an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The company claims that the smartphone has a screen to body ratio of 93.4 percent this time. The phone has Sunlight Mode, Reading mode and Continuous color temperature adjustment.

Xiaomi has confirmed that the Mi MIX 3 has score 108 and 93 points respectively on the DxOMark photography and videography benchmarks. The special edition is jointly designed by Xiaomi and the Palace Museum, which is known as the largest treasure house for ancient artworks.

Unlike nearly all the devices coming out this year, Xiaomi has done something a little different with the design of the Mi Mix 3.

And as teased by Xiaomi, the front will sport a dual-camera setup, with a 24-megapixel primary shooter.

The Mi Mix 3 spots a pair of 12MP rear cameras with OIS, 4K video recording, and 960fps slow-motion. Some AI features like AI Scene detection, AI Studio Light, AI Dynamic Bokeh, etc. are also present. Or just use the impressive dual 12MP rear camera instead. The secondary front camera is a 2 MP depth sensing camera.

The front cameras are placed on a slider.

Processor: The Mi Mix 3 packs an octa-core Snapdragon 845 processor under the hood. Xiaomi has also bundled a 10W wireless charger with the phone.

It is reported that the smartphone supports 10-watt wireless charging Qi and rapid charge Quick Charge 4+.

The Mi MIX 3 will be available in jade green, sapphire blue, and onyx black initally in China.

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has announced its flagship mobile phone Xiaomi Mi MIX 3. There's also an 8GB/256GB variant (around R8,500) and then something called the Forbidden City Palace Museum edition will give users 256GB of storage and a frankly mad 10GB of RAM.
