The arrest came after authorities Friday responded to two more devices - one in Florida, the other in NY - pushing the total number of packages found by law enforcement to 12.

Authorities have found two more suspicious packages, one addressed to Democratic Senator Cory Booker and another to James Clapper, the former United States director of national intelligence.

Between Monday and Friday morning, packages containing supposed explosive devices were sent to George Soros, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Eric Holder, Joe Biden, CNN's Manhattan office, Maxine Waters, Joe Biden, John Brennan, James Clapper, and Cory Booker.

Two law enforcement officials say a person was taken into custody in Florida in connection with package bombs that were sent to high-profile critics of the president.

The development came amid a nationwide manhunt for the person responsible for at least 13 explosive devices addressed to prominent Democrats including former President Barack Obama, former Vice President Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton.

A New York City police bomb squad has removed a suspicious package from a Manhattan building associated with actor Robert De Niro. Officials are trying to determine if the sender or senders was trying to sow fear or actually cause physical destruction.

The episode has sparked an outcry from Trump's critics charging that his inflammatory rhetoric against perceived enemies among Democrats and the press has fostered a climate ripe for politically motivated violence.

President Trump tweeted that he would speak about developments in the investigation at a White House event scheduled to begin shortly.

In a statement released by his publicist, the actor said: "There's something more powerful than bombs, and that's your vote". Sayoc lives in Aventura, Florida, and investigators believe numerous packages were processed at a nearby mail facility.

All the suspicious packages were believed to have gone through the USA postal system at some point, the source said.

Former CIA Director Brennan, the target of a package sent to CNN, fired back.

Clapper, who has frequently criticized Trump, vowed to CNN Friday morning that he wouldn't be intimidated in light of the discovery. Details suggest only a broad pattern - that the items were packaged in manila envelopes and addressed to prominent Democrats.

But the twin discoveries led to other undetonated devices being found elsewhere, including in the mailroom at CNN's NY headquarters and a district office of the Florida Democratic congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Sayoc was arrested at a business in Plantation, Florida, a city some 30 miles north of Miami, a source said.

"I thank God no one's been hurt, and I thank the fearless and resourceful security and law enforcement people for protecting us", De Niro told TheWrap. The devices have been recovered in New York, Washington D.C., California and South Florida, all with the return address of Debbie Wassermann-Schultz's office.

Earlier this week, a package had been sent to former Obama administration CIA Director John Brennan in care of CNN in NY. She is a former chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee.

A wide investigation continues, with the FBI, the Postal Service and other federal agencies working with state and local authorities.

With the USA bitterly divided and crucial midterm elections on November 6, Trump reacted first by calling for unity and condemning "acts of political violence", before reverting to attacks on the media.

"Stop blaming others. Look in the mirror", Mr Brennan tweeted. Sayoc reportedly has ties to NY and that he has a criminal history.

The bombs are about 6 inches long and packed with powder and broken glass, according to a law enforcement official who viewed X-ray images. Electrical wires leading out of the pipe led to an electric timer taped to the pipe, according to law enforcement officials speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the investigation. He said other packages may still be in transit.

They contained "energetic materials" packed into PVC pipes and could have been unsafe, he said, although none of them exploded and no one was hurt.

Three days after the first explosive device found in the home NY financier and donor to democrat George Soros, no one has yet been arrested.
