Including his three playoff wins last season, Foles is 14-8 in games he's started for the Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles appear to be ready to go with veteran Nick Foles at quarterback to start their title defense on September 6 against the Atlanta Falcons.

With quarterback an uncertainty, and top wide receiver Alshon Jeffery not expected to play Thursday, Ajayi could be heavily featured against the Falcons.

Foles started in the preseason for the Eagles and struggled, causing concern for an offense that was dynamic and at times unstoppable in 2017.

"I appreciate y'all putting words in my mouth this week", he told reporters in Philadelphia. Since Wentz hadn't officially been cleared for contact heading into the weekend, it seemed like only a matter of time before it was announced that Foles would begin the year as the starter, bringing a whole new level of pressure to the table.

Foles started the Eagles' last game that counted too. He had been splitting first-team reps with Foles, but will move back into a supporting role for at least this week.

Wentz was in the MVP hunt before tearing his ACL against the Rams.

That would seem to all but guarantee that Foles will get the start, unless his shaky preseason has suddenly put third-stringer Nate Sudfeld in the running.

Although the ideal scenario would be Wentz getting back under center as soon as possible for the NFC heavyweights against potentially one of their strongest opponents in the conference, Foles proved to be a formidable backup at the position previous year when the MVP candidate went down with the season-ending knee injury.

The wait is over and any advantage the Eagles tried to convince us they were getting by waiting is now gone.
