Maurizio Sarri open to John Terry joining Chelsea coaching staff

Sarri revealed he has been preparing for the intense set of fixtures over the past few weeks to ensure his side are well prepared to take maximum points, he added: "We have to play seven matches in 23 days, so I had to work".

Asked about the possibility of Terry joining Chelsea as a player, Sarri said: 'It would be on the coaching staff, I think, because, as I've said before, we want to give space to the young players.

Terry is unlikely to be returning to Stamford Bridge, for now, but he is working with the academy players at Chelsea's Cobham training ground as he seeks his coaching qualifications, with a long-term target in mind.

Sarri said: 'The last time I spoke with him, about a week ago, he told me that he wants to play for another season.

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has spoken about the possibility of one the Blues legends returning to the club. For the moment, I'm really very happy to stay here. A win against Chelsea is a tall order, but if Cardiff has any hopes of remaining in the Premier League, a victory on Saturday could go a long way towards making that dream a reality.

Liverpool now top the table with four wins out of four, though Chelsea and Watford are also on 12 points after their ideal starts to the season.

Maurizio Sarri has claimed he does not see Chelsea challenging for the Premier League title in his debut season in charge, adding that Manchester City and Liverpool are now the main title contenders.

"We need another step I think to be at the same level".

However, the Brazilian fell out of favour with the manager at Chelsea last season, but has returned to regular first team action under Sarri this term.

After helping Belgium finish third in the World Cup in Russian Federation, the 27-year-old has scored five goals in his first games in the Premier League.

"We did well today, we played with our style and our passion and we did very well".

"My feeling is that now we are not a very solid team in the defensive phase".
