Merritt, one of the Jean family attorneys, said Dallas police should have never issued the search warrant to look for drugs at Jean's apartment.

"It had a specific objective in mind", Merritt said.

It was unclear if police also searched Guyger's apartment.

As of now, Guyger has been charged with manslaughter and released on bail, although she could reportedly face more serious charges.

"To have my son smeared in such a way, I think shows that there (are people) who are really nasty, who are really dirty and are going to cover up for the devil Amber Guyger", she said.

A warrant signed by 292nd District Court Judge Brandon Birmingham says police meant to search Jean's apartment for "any contraband, such as narcotics", that could "constitut [e] evidence of a criminal offense".

The video shows Dallas police Officer Amber Guyger in handcuffs and dressed in an orange jail uniform Sunday at the Kaufman County jail.

The response to the news of Dallas police criminalizing Jean was scathing.

The station interviewed an attorney not connected to the case, who said, "I'm not saying Mr. Jean is a bad guy because he had some marijuana in his apartment, but it could help add some explanation to this insane case".

A group of Dallas-area church leaders gathered for a press conference Thursday afternoon immediately following the funeral of Botham Jean, who was shot and killed by off-duty officer Amber Guyger last week.

The affidavit explains the door being opened "alerted" Jean to Guyger's presence.

"What they did here is absolutely typical", Kepple said.

The news came the same day that mourners at her son's funeral remembered him for his religious convictions and kindness.

It is not clear what, if any, search warrants have been executed on Guyger's property. They are trying to find every little aspect of Botham Jean's life that will justify his life being taken but in reality there is NOT ONE THING THAT CAN! It's also been pointed out Jean had a distinctive red doormat outside his door, which should have made Guyger realize she was at the wrong place. "The Rangers are not releasing any additional information on the investigation at this time". She claims she entered the wrong flat, mistaking it for her own, thought she was facing an intruder and felt it necessary to discharge her firearm.

It is unclear if police took anything during that search.

"If information like that comes out on my son then I will not sit back", Allison Jean said. She said Jean ignored her verbal commands, and she fired two shots, hitting him once in the torso, the affidavit said.

The discrepancies center around how Guyger gained access to an apartment that was not hers and whether or not she exchanged words with Jean before shooting him dead, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He described Jean's death as an avoidable tragedy and said the group wants to know why Guyger has not been fired.
