Clemson's Dabo Swinney on Kelly Bryant transfer: 'I respect' his decision

Speaking on the ACC coaches' teleconference, Swinney said he was "saddened and disappointed" by Bryant's departure. I'm not going to tell him how he should or shouldn't feel.

In the end, I think most former Clemson football players have a grasp and understanding on the situation and will continue to both support Kelly Bryant and the Tigers going forward, as we all should.

According to ESPN, under the new redshirting rules this season, Bryant has an opportunity to transfer with one year of eligibility remaining because he played in only four games this season. Bryant has not used his redshirt year yet and can now do so and play somewhere else next season.

Bryant started the first four games of the season, but his fate was sealed when Lawrence threw four touchdowns Saturday a win against Georgia Tech. While Bryant has a been a very good QB for Clemson, it was obvious that Lawrence presented a much higher upside for Tigers and gave the team a much better shot at winning their second national championship in the last few years.

Only months after getting his Tigers to the College Football Playoff, quarterback Kelly Bryant is set to leave Clemson. He made a decision he felt was best for him, and you have to respect that and move on. I was like, 'I'm not discrediting Trevor (Lawrence).

Bryant is the fourth quarterback to transfer from Clemson since the end of last season, joining Tucker Israel, Zerrick Cooper and Hunter Johnson. I've been here. I've waited my turn. I love him. I care about him I wish him nothing but the best.

Bryant's demotion did not sit well with the graduate student, who led Clemson to a 12-2 mark past year, a third consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference championship and College Football Playoff berth. I tend to agree with most of Boyd's thoughts.

"I've never been a distraction". Bryant has 461 passing yards with two touchdowns and one interception, completing 66.7 percent of his attempts with 130 rushing yards and two touchdowns. "To me, it was kind of a slap in the face".

"I've told y'all that many times that if we saw a change, if there was a change, we'd probably all know it, and that's what happened Saturday", Swinney said. "He's played well. We've played four games now and with Trevor it's just the productivity and sheer data, he deserves to run out there first this game".
