Alli and Lloris to miss Liverpool game

Hugo Lloris will remain Tottenham's captain despite pleading guilty to drink-driving in court on Wednesday, manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed.

Dele Alli will miss Tottenham's Premier League match against Liverpool with a hamstring injury as club captain Hugo Lloris also remains on the sidelines.

On his part, Alli suffered a hamstring injury while on global dut with England.

Pochettino said: "He already knew in the moment that it was a big mistake".

But boss Mauricio Pochettino will confirm today that the World Cup victor will retain the armband ahead of Saturday's clash with Liverpool.

"Of course he doesn't feel great". He made a mistake and is suffering, and is punishing himself. But of course we're not God, that we can judge people. "That is a massive lesson for everyone, he was the first to tell me he made a mistake".

Shortly after his arrest last month, Pochettino kept faith with Lloris as retained the captaincy in the 3-0 win at Manchester United.

Southgate believes that the 22-year-old, who has returned to Spurs for further treatment, should be able to feature against Liverpool this weekend.

Tottenham are also understood to have fined the World Cup victor £250,000, which is the equivalent of two weeks' wages, and warned him about his future conduct.

It means the Frenchman's deputy Michel Vorm is set for an extended spell in the team and is likely to play in the glamour games against Inter Milan and Barcelona in the Uefa Champions League, while Alli is also expected to miss Tuesday's tie with the Serie A side.

"Now he is going to do another scan to try and see how much he is injured", Pochettino added.

"Hopefully, it will be OK and he will be available again soon, like Dele".

"I'm going to work hard to get back and as quickly as possible".
